This guys work is so amazing it makes me crazy.
I Can Has Blog?
Interesting. Also interesting in that this moment marks my last action as a student this semester. It’s been fun. :)
This is a swell little animation made entirely of type.
I guess it really is important to check out your designs from all possible angles. Once something is seen it cannot be unseen. The problem doesn’t need any explanation from me, so I’ll just let it speak for itself.
For anyone in 243 with me, this may be even more timely. For anyone who isn’t, screw you.
I almost can’t believe this. This is a video of an elephant painting a self-portrait. Not just painting, but also displaying a basic understanding of perspective and other “exclusive-to-humans” artistic concepts (varied line wieghts, ground line… WTF?). It’s just amazing. I, for one, welcome our new elephant overlords.
Cool shit stuff. Make sure the sound is on.
This is a great example of interesting book design, AND interesting typography all wrapped into one handy package.
A critique of Joyce’s site
The whole site is very simply laid out and easy to navigate. One thing I do notice right away is that on my browser, I have to scroll down a bit on the main page to see the whole image. Maybe too much negative space at the top? On a whole I think that everything looks nice, but there are a few minor points. The grey on the “Projects” and “Bio” pages is darker than the grey on the main page, and I think the lighter grey works better. Also, I feel that something is “missing” overall, but unfortunately I can’t really say what that something is. It just feels somehow unfinished in general, but maybe it is?
Overall though, the site is clearly laid out, easy to navigate, and definitely not cluttered up with pointless crap. That’s always a plus.
This is a great illustration of how well typography can be used on its own as a narrative device. In these animations, the video from well known movies (and TV shows) has been replaced with animated typography. The soundtracks remain. The results are pretty interesting.
Check this out. A large group of people were shown a myriad of colors and asked to give them names. The results were mapped out and grouped together into a sort of word-based color wheel. It’d be easier if you just went ahead and checked it out. My main reason for posting it is that I think it is interesting how one person’s idea of “mauve” may differ from another’s. Be sure to check out the “color label explorer” to narrow the field by specific terms.
